440 Thermquad - rebuild or replace

Post by Dodgeitis »

Can anyone recommend a suitable carb replacement for a 78 440 w/ Thermoquad #9036s. The carb is shot and rather than monkey around with it considering going to go to a new one..

Thanks in advance.

You probably know that the only thing that really goes "bad" on a TQ is the phenolic body of the carb. If you can find another, rebuilding is doable. I've still got a few in a box of carbs and parts. If you have the numbers off the carb, I might be able to help you, if you decide to rebuild it.

I love the sound of a themoquad! 4secondsflat used to rebuild them, but I think he offers the Quickfuel carbs. I have a Holley 750 on my 383 truck, and a Mighty Demon 850 on the Duster. I wonder about the new Demon that is patterned after the thermoquad. I'd like to give it a try.

Put an injection system on it and don't look back. That's my .02.

A guy named demonsizzler on the internets is a guru on them, and I know another old guru that built one for me in San Diego that ran awesome, as well as some others he's done for me.

I thought Demonsizzler was not doing this anymore? Thought I saw a post about this several months back.

I think that's correct, but there's still a lot of his good tech posts out there.
