Re: Rear End Locked Up

Re: 727 Transmission Issue (Low Fluid?)
Sent you a PM with detailed info about my truck. I'd love to see it go to another sweptline owner who would be able to fix it up right. Very nice solid truck for a 1970. Was a farm truck. Has 63,737 miles. I believe them to be original miles but the title says exempt due to being 40 years old.

Re: 16.5 divided by 16 equals OK.?
I used to work at a tire store, I can tell you all kinds of horror stories about tires blowing apart, taking out fenders, could kill you. No one will dare mount it for you and you could kill yourself trying to set the bead. Either get the right tires, or sell your wheels and buy some 16" wheels or 1...

Anyone want this truck? I'll sell it cheap. Trying to pick up a Ram SS/T nearby.

Re: 727 Transmission Issue (Low Fluid?)
They said they didn't touch the linkage. Funny thought it was driving fine till I get it back. I just put fluid in it till it was definitely full and it still will not fully engage in D or 2. It will let the truck roll forward slowly but if you hit the gas it slips. Then you put it in 1st and it wil...

Possible.
What type of fluid and how many qts should it need with a filter and fluid change?

Re: 727 Transmission Issue (Low Fluid?)
Also the guy said he put ATF+4 in it. Shouldn't it take Dexron III fluid?

727 Transmission Issue (Low Fluid?)
I just picked up my truck after having the new rear end put in it. The trans is acting funny. I'm not sure if it's low on fluid because my dipstick is some aftermarket piece of *#%^ that someone cut off a bit too short so it only works to plug the fill hole. If I put the truck in D it will make a hi...

Re: 727 slip issue
How do you adjust the front band? Mine is slipping in 2nd now and was fine before the rear end locked up. Would like to try this before I decide to get a new trans.

Re: Rear End Locked Up
Could have been. Truck used to pull a 5th wheel trailer as a farm truck (possible a big horse trailer).
I just got a call from the guy doing the work, he said they got the rear end in, but now the trans slips in 2nd and whines. God damn it.

Re: Rear End Locked Up
Hoping to get my truck back tonight or tomorrow. The rear end I got from Backwoods had the bolts and seal on the front side of the rear near the yoke/flange. I could have sworn my old rear end had the removable back plate like most truck rear ends I've seen. Could it be that I got a smaller /6 rear ...

Did you ever do this? If not, I'm selling a set of March serpentine pulleys for $150 on e-bay right now.

Re: Rear End Locked Up
hmm.... well now that the driveshaft has snapped off.... need to replace the rear pinion gear or whatever connects to the rear end. The driveshaft still has the rear u-joint on it and then it's broken off at the yoke.

Re: Rear End Locked Up
Not yet, my truck is at a shop in the ghetto lockup up behind a fence.
I had 275/50/15's on the rear, so I think they are not 31" tall. Maybe I did have 3.55's.
I'll look at the moparts site and see. 3.23's would give me a little lower cruising RPM on the highway which couldn't hurt.

Re: Axle stuck
Damn what a *#%^@ day, mine locked up on the 13th too. My right tire was dragging. I did break off the driveshaft by putting it in D and trying to get it out of the intersection.

Re: Rear End Locked Up
My truck turned 2600 rpm at 70 mph. Not sure what that ratio would be.

Re: Rear End Locked Up
Well if i can replace the internals and re-use my axles, that might not be too bad. How much would you want for the 3.55 suregrip setup? I don't know what ratio I had, but I can go over to where my truck is and look this weekend. I am from MI originally. Might be able to run up and get it from you.

Re: Rear End Locked Up
It will roll backwards, but when pulling it forward with a winch the right tire locks and drags and makes the truck hop.
When it locked up on me I thought it was the trans, like it went into park or something because it locked up and hopped really rough till it skidded to a stop.

Rear End Locked Up
Was driving home from work and slowing down for a red light when the rear end locked up. Truck would roll backwards but not forwards. Tried to drive it forward because a cop told me to clear the intersection and it snapped off the driveshaft at the rear end after the u-joint. Finally got it towed. T...
