Newbie swepie fever in Stl.

So I've been drooling over the 61-71 for months and have finally bought two. I have a ? for you guys that probably is not here in the archives. If I'm wrong PLEASE point that way. Can I take a long bed and cut the front cab side to make a short bed? obviously it would be 6 inches longer would have to extend for rear bumper which would be cool a 7 ft bed! But I'm probably missing something about the wheel well.

Was looking at my post confusing. I want to make a short bed out of a long bed. not worried about mounting locations mainly body lines, wheel well and this bed would be 6 inchs longer than factory shorty right?
