HELP WITH TANKS

Hi i have a 1971 D200 camper special and I had a question on the gas tanks. I know that i have a 25 gallon in cab, but i also have two underneith the bed on each side. I just want to know did these tanks come witht the truck as an option? If so, how do they work? Is there a sending unit? Does it over fill into the cab tank? They are both dirty and i dont want to just pour gas in them without knowing anything.. Thanks

These are the 2 saddle tanks off of my 70 Camper Special all that they used was the mechanical fuel pump on the engine. The fuel valve should should be located on the floor on the drivers side. It has 3 positions the left tank, main tank and the right tank, each of the auxiliary tanks hold 15 gallons. Jim

PS. my spare tanks are clean and available along with a working valve.

Thanks for the reply. I guess i have to try and clean the tanks see if everything works. Couple more questions; do the tanks have a float or something to register the the fuel gauge? also were is the fuel pump? is it the same one that drives the main, because i noticed there are 2 filters.

Usual setup is one fuel pump on the engine, no fuel gauge for the aux tanks.

You only have the guage for the main tank, the spare tanks or auxiliary tanks are 15 gals. each. So figure your gas mileage off of that. Jim

When my 67 was my dad's, we had two 18 gallon saddle tanks, without float gauges in them, and the stock 18 gallon in-cab tank. He would fill all 3, the drive off of one saddle tank until it went dry, then switch to the other. Once it ran dry, switch to the main tank and stop for gas before the gauge got to the bottom. Only one tank needs a gauge that way. You say your in cab tank is 25 gallons? I've never noticed if there were bigger in-cab tanks in some trucks.

They will but you'd have to address the mounting bolt locations

Thanks for the input. I assumed that I have the 25 gal tank because it takes up the entire space behind the seat, i can barly fit my finger on the side. Once i get more money in I think ill convert the tank so i have one big one under the truck instead of the cab.

The tank is taller and wider. I have a 23 gallon in mine and had to cut the inside wall to fit it in.

My 69 has a switch on the dash of fuel levels in the saddle tanks.
