62 D200

Post by rogerl »

I am wanting to repaint the metal dash I was looking at the dash and it looks like it is screwed from the top. So as anyone removed the dash before?

I haven't on a 62 but yes there are screws along the top and some on the edges and a few brackets underneath. The tricky part is getting the ones next to the windshield with the glass in place. There isn't a whole lotta room.

Do as soopernaut says. It is kinda tricky to do without scratching any paint, though. Things like defroster vents, gauges, and wiring are also attatched, so be careful with those, too. :Thumbsup

easiest way for me to do this is to take screwdriver bit from your hand impact or similar....put a ratcheting box end wrench around it...and walllaahh. A tiny ratcheting screwdriver.. Fit it up next to the windshield and with a little bit of muttering; you'll get it out.

I repainted the red and white dashes. The red one was done 25 years ago and the white was done last spring. You can get a good result also by leaving them in. The trick is to hand sand all of the small hard to reach areas. The paint also needs to be applied wet as it will be a pain to try to wet sand the areas and then buff out.

I attached a couple of photos to check out. good luck......

Here is the link to the company. The carpets fit very well with just a little trimming. I would also add the mass backing. It cost more but the sound reducing properties have been excellent. You will need to remove the seat to do the best job. If you have a 4 speed try to use if you still have it the old carpet or mat to help judge where to cut the hole for the shift lever. I have attached the link to view. Scroll down until you see the year of your truck.

Good luck
