Love your truck! The wheels are great and the new "old" lettering makes it look like an old shop truck.

Re: Did the 'patina' lettering thang.........
Well, first I looked all over the web for old lettering I liked [good stuff on the HAMB]Dood wrote:Looks great! How is it done?
I had a sign maker make me a mask out vinyl..really it's just like regular vinyl sign lettering except you remove the letters themselves instead of the background.
For paint I tried regular automobile acrylic enamel but found you couldn't brush it on worth a crap...so I made a trip to Michael's Craft store and got a couple bottles of outdoor acrylic paint [for like things in your garden, birdbaths etc] I practiced on a junk fender. [I was too cheap to go out and buy 'One Shot' the professional 'right' paint for the job.]
I brushed each letter by hand trying to do it like a professional would leaving brush strokes, painted it heavier in some spots and lighter in others. Let everything dry, removed the mask and let it sit for a couple more days to set up. Again, after practicing on the old fender I used a combo of 0000 steel wool, a red 3m scuff pad and most successfully, some 'GOOF-OFF' [amazing stuff, everyone should have some] on a paper towel. That was the tricky part, I sanded and wiped until it looked 'old' Then I wet the door with water, and 'threw' brake drum 'dust' off my brake drum/rotor surfacing machine. the dust stuck to the wet door and has rusted in quite nicely....

Wow that is really cool and came out great. It seems legit too, some of the speed shop names people go with are a little over the top. Nice wheels on there too. I realized I never answered your post about my door lettering in the photo glallery section. It says Mission Food Products Santa Fe Springs Calif. with an old mission logo. They were hand painted on in the early 70's, Also has "90" painted on the drivers cowl. I think they still make tortillas... but I could not find any pics of their fleet anywhere.

It is legit!! It's my business! I opened in 1984 as a speed shop, added used cars....and around 1992 or so just dropped the parts all together. My supplier warehouse in Albany went belly up so I had no 'good' place to buy my inventory anymore...

There is some nice stuff in the "classics" section, but no Mopars?
Re: Did the 'patina' lettering thang.........
I did the same thing to an old door I have hanging on my wall. I used one shot, let it dry for a couple hours and started rubbing on it with a thinnered up rag. I cant remember which worked better, lacquer thinner or acetone. Then I rubbed a scotch brite on some rusty metal, then rubbed the paint with that. Turned out perfect. Only reason I did it was the fact it had bullet holes in the door, so I drug it home, ha ha.
