disc/drum master cylinder?
disc/drum master cylinder?
Is there a disc drum mast5er cylinder that bolts directly onto sweptline trucks?
Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
Probably. Can you provide any further details onRamSST wrote:Is there a disc drum mast5er cylinder that bolts directly onto sweptline trucks?
what you're looking for?.... Your question is kind of vague.

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
My guess is he is looking for a 4 bolt disc master he can use as a manual disc setup??
I don't remember when they switched from 4 to 2 bolts, but I would guess that the
early 70's would be the best bet. There are 2 different widths on the 2 bolt masters.

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
when I get my new cab I'll know for sure what master I'll be using. The cab I believe is a 64(one of those years) so hopefully there is something available.

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
On my 78 w200, the master cylinder is 2-bolt to the booster, but the booster is 4-bolt to the firewall. I want to say that manual master cylinders in the 70's were still 4-bolt, but I haven't seen a manual braked truck past 72-73 model.nfury8 wrote:My guess is he is looking for a 4 bolt disc master he can use as a manual disc setup??

You can buy an adapter plate, MC bolts to plate 2 bolts ,plate bolts to firewall 4 bolts. I got mine from Mancini Racing.

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
I put a 68 Dart master cylinder on my 64 Crew and drove it like that for a while. I recently tore my crew apart and put a mid 80's half ton booster and master cylinder on it. Took a little drilling but was pretty easy to install. That wont work with a hydraulic clutch though.

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
I made a bracket to adapt the newer aluminum 2 bolt master to my 71.
The booster was giving me fits, master was shot and just didn't need any more
hassles with it, taking time away from 70 Crew. So I swapped it to manul.
It already had an 81 disc axle up front.
If your 64 already has discs up front, then it probably already has either a
booster and 2 bolt master, or an adapted to bolt master. If it still has a manual
4 bolt master, there is a good chance it is actually a drum master and should
be replaced ASAP with a newer disc master, which will most likely be a 2 bolt.

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
Been a few years but I put a '01 F350 master cylinder and hydro booster on my '68 W300. Very easy to drill new holes. With the hydro being small and running off the power steering pump (not vacuum) it didn't affect the clutch. If I recall the only problem was the W brake peddle hole did not match the master cylinder plunger. Knowing me I probably welded the W's plunger half to the F's half. Now the brakes work great.
Just remember disc brakes require a lot more pressure than drums. Thats why nfury recommends changing it asap.

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
When I put the discs on my 67 I used a master cylinder from a 1972 D100 manual disc/drum.
The NAPA p/n is 36307. It is 4 bolts and replaced my stock one just fine. The only difference
was it didn't have the flange that the brake rod boot slips over. Other than that it fit and
worked perfect.

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
I pulled a couple brake drums off and theres some things I didn't think I'd be replacing in the front so I'm just going to throw the D60Front axle I have under the truck after getting work done to it(new gears). So I decided I'll throw the Power steering pump back on my engine and rig up the 97 dodge cummins hydroboost braking system. Should work nicely. I wonder if I should use the stock 97 proportioning valve tho?

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
If the 97 valve is like the 94 valve and just about ever other valve I have seen
from Dodge, it really isn't a proportioning valve, just a splitter. The 94 valve
I am using on my 70 crew is just a fancy looking version of the same valve that
was originally on the truck in 70! I am using an 89 Dana44 with discs up front
and a 98 Dana60 with much bigger drums in the back and it all works fine!
The master is from a mid 80s truck. I went with the 80's master and booster
because they were cheap and easy to find, the later 90's trucks used a funky
booster and master setup to clear the cowl.
I would be very interested in seeing the 97 hydroboost setup you mention.
Curious what it looks like!

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
I'll get a picture tomorrow night when I go back to work on the truck. have to tear parts off the D60 front so I can get the axles out and send to to a buddy to get the new gears put in.nfury8 wrote:If the 97 valve is like the 94 valve and just about ever other valve I have seen

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
What he said. Except I got mine from AutoZone. It had no coating and the outside is rusted like crazy. I'm going to fix that sometime this week or next. Works great!Dodge383fi wrote:When I put the discs on my 67 I used a master cylinder from a 1972 D100 manual disc/drum.

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
quick question guys!
I also bought a '72 MC before even reading this post, got it about a week ago. My old master was for four drums, and started leaking, too. Got it painted and everything. Now, which line goes to the front, which one goes to the back of the cylinder. The 50/50/90 rule applies here. I have a 50/50 chance, 90 percent of the time I'm wrong. Thanks.

Re: disc/drum master cylinder?
The larger reservoir section is for the fronts and the smaller reservoir section is for the rears.
