Axle wedges

Post by PeterCrowl »

Just so everybody knows what a goof I am ...I pulled my axle without realizing that those spacer pads were, in fact, wedges. Ok - fine - which way do they go? Should the axle tilt back or forward.
The Chilton manual does not address this. Beginning to think that manual deserves a place of honor...in the outhouse.

Does the parts page http://sweptlineparts.com/catalog17.html
help any?

I know that for a leaf spring drag car you use wedges to set 5° to 7° down pinion angle. Don't know if this is used for stock setup or not.

Should have been more specific..it's the front axle I pulled.
The parts diagram does not show them. Same images as the Chilton.
I'll call the alignment shop I use - they'll know.

The bottom of the axle tilts toward the front thus achieving positive castor.
So says Aligmnent Masters.
Just in case anybody else ever gets into the same predicament!!
