aftermarket H20 temperature sender

Post by brothermo »

Still putting the engine back together, and I'm planning to add some aftermarket gauges, including water temp sender. The probe on the new sender is too long for the existing tapped hole on the block (/6). I thought about drilling and tapping the water outlet (thermostat housing), but it seems too thin to hold threads, and I don't want to ruin it trying. I've also thought about replacing the t-stat housing with a cast iron one with holes already tapped, but I haven't found one yet that will fit correctly. Any thoughts?

It looks a bit hokey, but a close nipple and pipe coupling would give you the length you need. Brass would look a bit better than galvanized.

That's a good thought, but I am trying to keep the existing temperature sender as well - I don't like dead gauges in the dash if I can avoid it.

Street T fitting. One leg has male threads, the other two are female.
