This carb came off of a 65 Plymouth poly 318.
I Looked up 3858 and it said in a couple places that it was for a 413.!!
I found these online and they were not 3858-S (surfing online finds only used the numbers. "3858" Not the "S"
Question is,..
What size mopar engine came stock from factory with carb ID of 3858-S ?
Thanks, Gordo
Carter ID Question
Re: Carter ID Question
Gordo,
As far as I can tell the 3858 was used on the 413 but probably had other application as well. The "S" designation just means assembly. There is no difference between a 3858 and 3858S
This site has a good explanation of Carters numbering system: http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Carburetor_ID.htm

Re: Carter ID Question
Thanks to John, I now know about the S designation.
I now just need to know if 3858 were used on 318s from factory.
Apparently this is a 1965 mopar carb according to online sites.
Just don't know if 318 or not.
Thanks again, Gordo

Re: Carter ID Question
Gordo
I am confused because the base of any 4 bbl Carb used on any 413's ( or
other such sized engines ) is larger that the last 4 bbl Carbed A-318
( this was 1962 with Plymouth or Dodge Car Division's ).
Of what 413's that had an 2 bbl ( Dodge Heavy Truck Division only ) it
is the same base fitting sagga of what any A-318 has of any year.
Match the Gasket used between the carb and the manifold for an
"look see".
The Air Cleaner to Carburator sizes are also different.
