Long Drive & Short Story!! New Pics,Is the 71 a CS

Post by CMR70D3 »

Hello to all,

I join this site the first of March for info. on my D300 truck, two weeks later I find a powerwagon for sale from a memberof the forum Jay (powerwagonandcharger). took a plane to Denver and drove it back! Three weeks later after having 6 years of artery problems in my legs I find out that I will have to have my left leg amputated above the knee. So first thing I'm thinking is that I need a truck with AT. So I find one about two weeks before my surgery from another member of this forum Jon (FastbackJon), He want's to keep the truck until fall, That works for me, THANKS JON!!
I got my practice leg Sept. 17th fly to Spokane Oct. 5th and drove 2000 miles back home.

So I can tell all of you that all summer I've been reading this forum, and that it was the best therapy for my mind and my new hobby  !! You guys, oh and gals are some of the nicest people :salut . I want to thank all of you!!! SO let me stop talking,START WALKING and "KEEP ON TRUCKIN"
God Bless and Thank you,
Chris

I am so glad you are keeping the positive outlook!! I don't know what I would do in that situation. I often think of all the work i put into my 4 speed truck but 20 yrs from now, i may have knee problems. :pale

I see the fender emblem is blank in the area below DODGE. A CS would have a foil sticker there that says "Camper Special". Regular trucks would have a casting of the model - 100, 200, etc. The blank would be a possible indicator it is CS. Is it a 200? Most CS's (all?) were 200's. Does it have the easy off tailgate? I believe all CS's in 71 had it.

First off we need to know if this truck is a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. If it is a 1/2 ton then it is not a Camper Special but a well optioned truck. It looks like it might be based on the fender emblem as PWD pointed out.

IIRC, Trey posted recently that his 66 literature showed the camper special pkg available on 100's. But that may just be marketing literature, and none were ever produced. I cant fathom why/how a 100 could/would be a CS.

The VIN says that it is a D1, and the wheels have five lug nuts, PWD the bed has been replaced with a 69' or 70' bed.
Thanks,

That was only in the early years, like 65-67 or 68. I've seen a 1/2 ton CS in person.

None of those items define a CS. All are routinely found on myriad trucks.

The only evidence noted so far is the CS like fender emblem, which is missing the definitive details.

Your truck is a Custom 100, since the truck isn't a 200 then its not CS. They had another foil decal in those emblems beside Camper Special, and that was Custom 100 and Custom 200. I have seen both. Its not as fancy of a truck like a Custom Cab or Adventurer. They could come with all the outside trim except the delta crest hood ornament and none of the inside trim. Whats is nice is your truck was odered with all the creature comforts tho. Nice rig :salut

I have some badges that have that custom foil in it, I think they are falling off too, so that explains the missing foil.
Looks like a real nice truck
