69 d200
69 d200
Well here goes. I have a 69 d200. I need help selling it or repairing/replacing the trans. It's the np435. I hope I just broke or sliped a fork. I was shifting from 2 to 3 and now in neutral its still in gear. I pulled the stick and its in neutral. When I let the clutch out in neutral it feels like a 3rd gear start. Maybe 4th. If I put it in any other gear it will die when I let the clutch out. Yes I need to pull it and pull the top cover and check the forks. But I'm really straped and have 5 other cars and a new (#3) child. I love my truck and don't want to see it go but if one of you are interested shoot me an offer. Names Nathan. I'm in southern Oregon. She runs real good and was my daily driver. Unmoleased I promise.

Re: 69 d200
Sounds like what happens sometimes when the shifter pad on the end of the stick gets worn and a "sliding type shift" is made instead of a true, square H pattern shift. Pull the stick out and you can see the neutral gates will not be lined up. Make sure the rig is parked solid and blocked with no pressure on the gear train. Take a bar or big screwdriver and if there is no pressure on the tranny you can lever it where it belongs. Put the shifter back in and should work. Not normally a real issue if you square shift it. I have welded the pad and ground it to shape and problem solved. If you think that one is bad you should try driving some of the brownie gear boxes in the old, old rigs I drove when I first drove semi as a pretty young guy. With the millions of miles and slop in the shift linkage I got educated pretty fast if I didn't want to have to crawl under the rig to straighten it out.

Shifters can be exchanged between the N P 435. Have had truck trans and tractor trans get stuck in a gear due to shifter wear at end or in the tower mechanism. Screwdriver as said to get into neutral and repair shifter end. May have to pull trans top to do some further shifter repairs in tower.
My truck is younger than me.

Re: 69 d200
It could also be a broken c clip. If so you can find the pieces if you remove the pto cover and look in the bottom.
I sold all of my sweptline trucks, except the invisible one. I just couldn't stand to see it go!

And naturally I have a NP435 sitting in the garage collecting dust, thousands of miles away from you.
