I really miss the local parts shops we used to have, but they are all gone now.
The chains couldn't touch them on service and knowledge. The NAPAs around here
are pretty sad also.

Re: Reverse lights on a 69
The switch should have 3 wires going to it.
The middle one, should be the orange one that goes to the starter relay.
The outer 2 are interchangeable. Power should come from the fuse box to
one of the outer wires and then the other outer wire goes to the reverse lights.

I believe the correct term is Hub.
But, Yes, it should be able to be removed.

Re: Bolt in Rear ends for swaps?
The pad widths changed at some point after 1994, when they went to 3" springs. However the center to center distance didn't change. I have a 1998 Dana 60 under my 1970 W200 Crew. I took a grinder and cut notches into the corners of the pads to allow mounting to the 2-1/2" springs. The shock mounts a...

Re: anyone put a 518 trany in a sweptline?
The swap is pretty easy. Cut a chunk out of the cross member and shorten the drive shaft.
Then just decide how you want to shift the OD and engage the lock up, if applicable.

Re: Looking for Good U-joints for my truck
Spicer is it! They are harder to find now, National is about the best you will find at the counter these days.
I have been buying my Spicers from a local drive line shop that works mostly on commercial vehicles.
They aren't that much more, just more work to get. But worth it.

Re: Rear axle and wheel lost on highway today
Wow that must have been one heck of a ride!!
I believe the drum is held on to the axle with the nut on the axle.
Unfortunately I can't find any decent pictures.
I did find this diagram from the parts book, but it doesn't show the drum.

Re: How much is a 1970 gauge cluster and bezel worth?
I would top out at $50 for known to be good parts, and about half that for unknown condition.
I have bought 2 in the past, one with an oil light for $20 and one with an oil gauge for $35.

Re: Old style power steering ???
I went looking for a reverse rotation box while doing my Power Steering project. They were very hard to find rebuilt and very expensive when I did. Although it is possible I was looking in the wrong place. It was important to me that what ever I choose be able to replace if the need arose. When I do...

Re: What synthetic oil brand is best?
I just noticed the same flier has Mobile1 Extended Performance for $33 for 5 quarts and a filter. They guarantee the Extended Performance to go 15,000 miles. Re work the math with that and 200,000 miles and you get 13 changes at $33, for $429!! Even if you just went 10,000 miles, that would be 20 ch...

Re: What synthetic oil brand is best?
I like the synthetics in the older vehicles that don't get driven as much because it will not acidify with age the same way dino oils do. The old 3000 miles or 3 months doesn't apply. I just have to worry about mileage. So on my Fury and Crew, I might only change the oil once a year! That is a cost ...

Re: Changing to electronic ignition
As Jeff mentions, the Pertornix is pretty simple and cheap. However, I am a fan of the later Mopar design he mentions. If it is a stock engine with a few miles on it, you may need a distributor anyway. Sticking the Pertronix in a worn out distributor will still have issues. There are several threads...

Re: rear disc brakes???????
Agreed, a proportioning valve is mandatory on a 4 wheel disc system, unless every component was specifically designed and built for the vehicle and designed to balance without a proportioning valve. There are many advantages of using an adjustable proportioning valve on any 4 wheel braking vehicle, ...

Re: installing disk brake set
If the calipers are fully retracted, there should be a little excess clearance between the pads, caliper and disc. When pumped up they will move out and contact the disc. In normal operation the pads float right next to the rotor when not energized, they never fully retract like drum shoes. Drum bra...

Re: running new brake lines
A roll of tubing and a flare tool is all I used on mine. I just started laying it out, marking and bending. Went real easy. Just move slowly. Coat hangers or other stiff wire can be used to experiment with and make patterns off of. A 4 wheel disc system will require a proportioning valve so the rear...

Re: Rear axle and suspension?
Welcome! a 9.25" would be a better choice over the 8.75", they were used in the early to mid 80's under Dodge trucks with the 5x5.5" pattern. Not sure if the 8.75" was ever used in that pattern. The 9.25" or even the 8.75" will be strong enough. Lots of 8.75" rears living very happily behind more po...

Re: rear disc brakes???????
Some Disc/Drum masters can be used. It is important to note that the calipers displace a lot more fluid than wheel cylinders. This is why Disc/Drum masters have different sized reservoirs. Ideally a Disc/Disc master would be used. However ideally the rear calipers should also be a lot smaller than t...

Re: What synthetic oil brand is best?
As I mentioned before, the molecular size on synthetics is much smaller, and more uniform. So it can squeeze through tight spaces (rings and seals) that a dino oil couldn't. This is why a synthetic might leak when a dino might not and why a synthetic might burn more over a dino oil. The smaller and ...

Could depend on the transfer case. I would imagine the gear driven 205 is the worst and a chain drive would be better.
