Re: Wood sealer
Spar Varnish as mentioned or Tung Oil. The good Spar Varnishes are made from Tung Oil. Avoid the Linseed based ones. The Tung oil element handles UV better and remain flexible. As they wear the Tung oil based finishes "chalk" off, rather than crack and flake off like Urethanes. Urethanes perform ver...

Re: PW CRUNCH! Guess I am cursed.
Just a follow up-
I got my $250 deductible check back from the law suit in June!
Everything is fixed, and I have money left over to put towards the bed.
Insurance took care of EVERYTHING!
Now if I could only find time!

Re: Mini starters
The electrical stud extensions vary by year I found. I have the minis on all my Mopars! The extensions lift and offset the terminals, which works ok on small blocks, but on my 440 and 400, the extensions were raised enough they hit the block. They just bolt on, so no problem to remove. There are sli...

Re: Okay... This is pretty cool... But I've got questions...
Just found the thread, bummer! Welcome! Always glad to see a younger person getting into classics and hot rodding! Gotta keep the hobby going! I still have my first car, from when I was 15. I can relate, my Fury was pretty rough when I got it and put a lot of time into it during high school and coll...

Anyone have a 1999 Ram Shop Manual??
Trying to figure out the wiring on these goofy seat belt tensioners. There is a control box of some sort under the center front seat, that has about 6-8 wires going to it and then on to the tensioners in the front seats. I need a wiring diagram and description if possible for this box. My 1994 Shop ...

Re: VIN locations on Cab
I kept a look out for a number stamped on the cab when I did the body work on my 70 crew, I didn't find any numbers stamped on the cab. They were all manually affixed as mentioned either as stickers or riveted plates. It was common for the cars to have several stamped in hidden places, under trim, m...

Re: Bucket Seats
It is better if the tank is removed. A big thing to remember is that the original seat back is open
and the tank actually hangs out into this void slightly. The rear glass plays a big role with tall seats also.

Re: Welding a Cab
Dropping down to a .21/.23 wire will still get the job done, and require less power. Go slow, let things cool and you should be fine. The cab is fairly stiff and will not warp easily from welding. The most likely place to warp will be the floors. They have the least amount of support. The door jams ...

Re: POR 15 products
I haven't used Eastwood's Encapsulator, I don't like covering rust, I want it GONE! But I have used their Chassis Black, and think it is a quality product. I used it on my Fury after I ran out of POR. Both were used on clean, blasted metal. With the exception of the areas where POR has peeled off, T...

Re: Bucket Seats
You could cover the tank some automotive carpet. I think that is how the factory did
it on the CSS trucks.
There have been several people drop newer split bench seats in their trucks. I am just
starting to work on adding a 1999 Dodge 40/20/40 split bench to my crew cab.

Re: gear vendors over drive
I would jump on a $500 Gear Vendor OD in a minute! Awesome!
Phoenix isn't giving much detail on their unit, but they specifically call it a 518.
The upgrade for the big blocks is $600, suspiciously close to the cost of the JW Ultrabell.

Any idea if the Blazer fuel sender is supposed to be electrically compatible with the Dodge?
You will need an ohm meter to verify this.

I had been hitting the yards so much for seats the guys were starting to remember me, what I was working on and that i was looking seats! I just wanted something that wasn't trash or tan. I started tearing things apart tonight, bad news for me on the wiring. Posted a bunch of stuff to my build on th...

Re: Mounting 1999 Quad Cab seats?
Thanks! Looks like we have the same pattern fabric. I think I will start by trying to chop these down; and if that goes bad, then move to custom brackets. One thing I forgot was to measure the angle on the sliders to see hoe much they tilted down. It looks like should tilt down in the back, and it l...

Re: 8 3/4 gears
The 295/50-15 is about 26.5" tall.
The shorter tires will add about 250 rpm to the rpms listed for the 29" tall tires.
You sure about the .73? I think the cars had .73, but the trucks were .71 in 85.
Not that it matters much, only adds about 50 rpm.

Re: Aftermarket gauges
I had some Equus gauges in my Fury when I first put it together to keep an eye on the 440. Just needed something cheap and temporary, O'Reillys had them for about $20 each. The mechanicals were pretty accurate, however the oil gauge sprung a leak and filled with oil after 6 months! I then switched o...

A 295/60-15 is about 29" tall. A 275/60-17 is about 30" tall. The A-833 probably has a .71 OD ratio. 29" tall w/3.55 = 2050 rpm @ 70mph 29" tall w/3.90 = 2250 rpm @ 70mph 29" tall w/4.10 = 2367 rpm @ 70mph 30" tall w/3.55 = 1980 rpm @ 70mph 30" tall w/3.90 = 2170 rpm @ 70mph 30" tall w/4.10 = 2280 r...

Re: Tranny Cooler
They are more expensive, but the B&M plate Super Coolers are excellent. Not only do they cool more efficiently, but they are built much tougher. Bugs will not beat them up, heck average size birds probably wouldn't do any damage either! While it might seem like overkill, considering you probably wil...
