Re: Did it skip a tooth?
Well, new timing set did the trick, the old girl is back on the road. Thanks for all the responses. When I got it apart, I'm thinking it had it's original timing chain in there! Reason I think so is you don't find that quality of timing chain these days...or even past decade or so. It was a 14 slat ...

Re: Did it skip a tooth?
It's a 318 poly...original motor. I did note when turning crank bolt to move to Align to TDC that rotor did not turn immediately...but I expected some slop...have no idea when it was last rebuilt. Just can't get past how it was running one day and not even a puff or backfire the next???

Did it skip a tooth?
Ok, long story that I'll shorten but want your thoughts on whether my old girl has skipped a tooth on the timing chain? I had some clutch work done at local trans shop (first mistake). They didn't listen to my instructions about manual choke etc., and cranked it to death...burning up the starter! I'...

Re: factory winch bumber
The chain wrap I was pretty sure was added along the way. However, the winch (Braden) with factory PTO is all original. Have no reason to believe front bumper and fairleads are wrong...but I don't sweat it either way.

Here's a view of mine. It also has chain wrap though not clear whether that was ever an option??

Re: Anybody Seen a tool Chest like this??
Thanks WD, good to know. It's running gear and options seem to support timber/forrestry use more than highway/municipality duty. The bed is in excellent shape too...perhaps it was the supervisor's truck

Re: 440/4 speed
I would be concerned about putting a small block trans behind a 440. Even if you're not planning to be hard on it, there is a world of difference in torque going through there.

Re: Anybody Seen a tool Chest like this??
Are you going to keep them on? They look neat, but they would only be useful if your going to use them. I would never use them if they were on mine... but I wouldn't junk them either. Cool!! I Like them. Jim Absolutely, use them quite a bit, holds a lot of stuff (tools, supplies...cooler :salut ) a...

Yep, decided the master was a pretty good bet, replaced it, and all seems good so far.

Possibly a mlco issue?
Trying to figure out my brake issue. I have new wheel cylinders all around, no leaks and believe master cylinder is ok. Most times brakes are nice and firm but then all of the sudden fade to the floor almost. Have bled them and then have same situation. I got to wondering if it was my MLCO "line loc...

For the /6 guys, a question...
I have another project going on a slant 6 Dodge Dart. It has dealer-installed AC (original) and the strangest lower radiator hose I've ever seen. It runs across the motor, following the shape of the timing cover and connects to the driver's side lower radiator neck :thinking ? Typically, the slant s...

Re: Mechanical Oil guage
Yep as 712 said. There is a sending unit for idiot light in the rear, top of the block and on many of my vehicles I've just create a "T" with hardware store fittings so I could run both the mechanical gauge as well as have the dash idiot light still function...whole hardware is less than $5.

Thoughts on bogging?
My truck has to navigate the hills of Pittsburgh and on the steep ones I get a lot of bogging and coughing through the carb unless I have some good rpms going. I just had the strom rebuilt and on normal driving ( non hills, etc) it does just fine. It also starts and idles beautifully as well. I know...

On Sunday I saw an Omaha Orange "dude" truck there as well...it kind of caught my eye :Thumbsup I've been going for almost 30 yrs ( even recall the Indiana locations) and there is always something that blows you away...actually, multiple vehicles. Never been a huge fan of wing cars but really liked ...

Thanks Sterno,

I was there too and saw Ben/His dad stunning black truck. What further amazed me is that his father said the truck has around 470,000 miles on it too!!!
Real cool!!

331 or 354 hemi heads on Poly?
Would 331 or 354 hemi heads be direct bolt ons to a 318 poly block? I'm thinking 331s may but not confident. Anyone here know and has anyone done something similar?
Thanks
