Re: To drill or not to drill

Haven't done anything with it yet. The socket is still hanging under the dash. If the 68 lighter position with an auto wasn't stupid (in the middle of th dash) I wouldn't hesitate.

Re: Vent wing seals

Shawn, did you get to this yet? I have mine out now, and drilled out the rivets, but they're so tiny, my riveter won't work. Who makes the riveter for those tiny things? Plus I need the rivets. I'm also curious how you like the fit of the trim pieces from Steele. If they're not perfect, I might jus...

Re: Where to look to get king pins pressed in..

Yeah the pins are the easy part, the hard part is reaming the new bushings. That only should cost $35-45 each side.

Some fun pictures for you guys.
oops! This is what happened when I removed the bottom dust cap. Basically that was the only thing holding the lower half of the king pin in!

Re: Steering driving me nuts

Bottom half of the king pin bore is oval shaped. I'm not sure what to do now, the king pin is supported by the top half of the bore, but I'm worried that it will break in the future and I'll have to do the job again.

Re: what type of electrical connectors to use?

I like the Delphi Weather Pack connectors. I get mine from Ebay. Universal and they work great at sealing out all the water and dirt. You can find them in just about any configuration 1-10 pins. http://myworld.ebay.com/perfplusconnection/&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2754 I like metri-pack, with the flat b...

Re: Steering driving me nuts

Whoa! that is huge. Ive never seen that happen. Axle may haev to come out b/c its a pita to get them out sometimes. Yep. Axle is out, I had no luck. I'm going to bring it to a local shop with a press to press out the remains of the kingpin. The upper half is well stuck in the axle. I am really cros...

Re: Steering driving me nuts

broken king pin on the left side.

The bottom part of the pin was loose in the axle, the upper part bent. So when I turned the camber went all over the place. Now I can't get the upper piece out...

Available from your favorite NOS vendor. I got mine from Arizona parts, but I don't know if they have more.

Re: Power steering ram

There was an NOS one on ebay recently.

Anyway they are dead easy to rebuild. Unless the shaft is bent or pitted, in which case you're SOL. What's wrong with yours?

That's a Holley. Peopl like both, I prefer the BBS but they are hard to find not warped.

Re: To drill or not to drill

Thanks for the suggestions. My ashtray was nasty so I left it off (67s and 68s have the weird under-dash slide out tray), and I do currently have the lighter mounted where it was on an aftermarket bracket. I'm going to look for a more stealth spot, I think.

Are you sure about that? I thought the a-body ones did not have the 'gap' for your hand to go in?

To drill or not to drill

My '68 shipped with no lighter and no radio. I want to add both, for charging my phone and for some tunes. I am pretty sure I am not going to cut the dash for any radio, I'm going to go with hidden tunes. The question is on the lighter... I just can't bring myself to cut a 3/4" hole in my freshly pa...

Re: front drum replacement

like supernought said they are swedged. easiest solution is take to a machine shop and have them install your new drums. they have the correct tools. Yes, and find a GOOD machinist who can find replacement studs that aren't swedged. Then the next time, or if you break a stud, all you have to do is ...

Re: Steering driving me nuts

Yeah, I've rebuilt a couple of the regular Mopar boxes before. I'll start shopping for the NOS part I need and tear it down to see what's going on. Can't hurt to reseal it and replace the bushings regardless.
