Re: Retaining Clip For Clutch Linkage?
It's been sometime ago, but I seem to recall these parts being included in a service kit for the clutch linkage from Mopar. It also included the plastic bushings that fit into the cross shaft and the rubber seals for the end of it. Can anyone confirm this!

Re: Please help, Noob wrenching on a 383 (and 727).
Ditto what chilort says about the T.P. (or kickdown, if you prefer) linkage. You should also at least change the trans. filter and fluid; that's not an intimidating job. High flow restriction in the filter equals low flow through the pump, low operating pressures, etc., and it only gets worse from t...

Re: Worth The Trouble??
You definitely want the crossover passage open and the crossover valve working. The exhaust gases diverted through the bottom of the intake manifold help warm the base of the carb., thus warming the fuel and aiding in the evaporation of the fuel, making it burn easier, etc., etc. A cold engine is mu...

It looks like what they put on the Chrysler 300 "Hurst" cars. I think they're quite rare.

Re: any secrets to sealing intake manifold
You didn't mention which engine you have. If it's a V8 you might have heads than have been milled; this can cause sealing problems if the intake face of the heads isn't milled a corresponding amount. There is a specific ration of intake face milling to head surface milling that varies with the engin...

Never heard of that, but many of them have a "dripper", a little sheet metal thingy that is attached to one of the cam thrust plate bolt holes.

Re: replacement radiator
I got a 4-core unit from Autozone for a '72-'80 truck for $179.99 with a lifetime warranty. It needed a little massaging before it fit, but the entire project took one evening. I just cut off the original mounting flanges, made up a pair of adapter brackets from 1/2"x2"x1/8" channel, and used the sh...

Re: 383 vs. 400
Hola There All 1959 to 1971 383's are "O"/nutual balanced. The object is to get the crankshaft so there was no "heavy spots", each rod or pistion weighs with in so much of the other and etc. Starting with 1972 the 360 and the 400 was now on the market. They had learned the above manner was at a hig...

Re: Holley Carb leak
I've used JB Weld on a fuel inlet fitting (stripped threads) on a Carter AVS, the crack in the block on our old IHC hay baler, the lower unit on my old 200 Merc, and others I can't recall. It really is great stuff. Just make sure the metal is clean and be aware that the JB Weld will flow some until ...

Re: SPARK PLUG GAPPING FOR POWER AND EMISSIONS
I think for SUN's smog issues I'd look at optimizing the carb's condition and the ignition system's performance. Basically, if you see black smoke at ANY time or under any condition there is too much fuel entering the engine to be burned cleanly. I've never liked Holley carbs., but that didn't stop ...

Re: ALCOHOL (denatured/isopropyl 99) FOR EMISSIONS
Where do you live that you have to smog a vehicle this old???? I've never heard of using alcohol in a smog test, but I guess it makes sense, as long as the emissions produced don't send the sensing machine out of range and red-flag you. You chemists out there (I'm not one of you!); what are the bypr...

Hey fellas, it could get expensive if you let that throwout bearing go too far. The previous owner of my truck did, and it ate up one of the pressure plate fingers!

Re: Toasted another voltage regulator
I'm not certain about how important the grounding of the regulator is, but I made sure mine was nice and clean when I put it back on, just in case. Your description of the failure of your alternator brought back a few memories. The rotor in the alternator on my '70 Roadrunner 383/4 spd. came apart o...

As a general rule, 10 psi/1000 rpm is good for oil pressure.
You said you checked the crank with a micrometer; did you check the bearing clearances as you assembled the engine?

Re: Headers,,,,again?
In my high school biology class (25 yrs ago) the teacher had a device that you would blow into that measured the capacity of your lungs. Mine was the highest in the class. (.65 liters iirc). Maybe that would give me the ability to blow smoke and join in the fun here..... :bs Hmmm.... Folks, I think...
